"Waiting" (2024) is a series of nine mixed media works on paper exploring the idea of waiting: What are we waiting for, and how do we wait? First drawn from live models then rendered in the studio, the portraits are composed of Lyon’s journals, graphite, charcoal, Sharpie, ink jet copies of a pastel drawing. This series uses a striking palette of red, black, gray and white. Ultimately, if we’re waiting on external circumstances to change to find peace, we might wait forever. This work is a reminder of how being present eliminates suffering.
